General Test Information
To ensure that all samples are managed properly and that persons collecting samples have the needed information, a laboratory manual book has been developed. Download the Medlab Test Manual. [PDF File. Right Click To Download].

Sample Collection
For samples being sent to our laboratory for analysis, a request form or worksheet needs to accompany the sample. The sample needs to be identified by date of drawing, name and date of birth on the sample. We also require patient details, tests required, relevant clinical information and who to contact with the results on the request form. Download and print the Medlab Request Form. [PDF File. As part of quality management it is important for the samples to arrive as safely and quickly as possible so that the integrity of the samples and a quick turnaround time can be assured.

Some samples need to be kept cool/cold on ice-packs (not directly on ice), while others need to be frozen on dry ice and transported frozen in special packaging. Therefore please contact us for information on specialised tests.

Urgent/Stat Requests
Please label these samples clearly as urgent or stat. We can then prioritize them and telephone, fax or email the test results as soon as they are available.

Problems with Samples

  • Incorrectly or inaccurately labeled samples may cause the samples to be rejected.
  • Insufficient or inappropriate samples may also prevent the test being done. Please contact us if you are having difficulty in obtaining a sufficient sample. We will try our best to perform the assays required.

Results
Turn Around Time (TAT):
- Tests performed in-house; 24hours
- Referral tests; 10 working days
- Urgent tests; 3hours
